The Therapeutic value of
Australian Medical Sheepskins

Placing a sheepskin between a patient and bed, or wheelchair, provably reduces pressure, friction, and moisture - the primary causes of pressure sores (ulcers).

Natural wool sheepskins are uniquely different to synthetic substitutes. The dense springy soft fibres are resilient, providing a cushion effect due to their compact nature, resulting in an even distribution of body weight, which eases pressure on delicate body points. The tanned leather backing holds the individual fibres firmly in place, supported by surrounding fibres, thus allowing air circulation.

The natural wool fibres of Australian Medical Sheepskins such as those we use, have a low abrasion or roughness coefficient and move with the body to provide a soft smooth surface that relieves any strain on a person's skin.

therapeutic value of Australian Medical Sheepskins

The properties of natural wool fibers found in Australian Medical quality sheepskin allow it to absorb up to 34% of its dry weight in moisture without dampness. The moisture is rapidly and naturally dissipated. Of great assistance to immobile patients, it reduces the potential for perspiration and moisture build up at body pressure points. This is a vital difference between natural wool skin and synthetic fibre materials, these latter tending towards retention of moisture and feeling wet to the touch.

Because they breathe, natural100 percent wool sheepskin products provide winter warmth but are cool in the summer.  For people with poor circulation issues the incidence of chills or clammy bedding is eliminated with the use of a natural wool sheepskin.

Wool sheepskin products are durable and long lasting. Australian Medical Sheepskins have been developed to withstand more than 100 washing cycles, are long lasting, and continue to look great for years.
