In 1999/2000 Ron was diagnosed and treated for cancer (lymphoma). It was a gruelling experience, but after more than a year of treatment he is now in long term remission. During 2004 Jean was found to have chronic emphysema (COPD). This, coupled with severe osteoporosis has meant much restricted mobility for her. She is on oxygen 24/7 and is now confined to a wheelchair for getting about.

Our experiences over the past 10 years, coping with these problems and the need to access mobility and medical aids and equipment, has allowed us to understand similar needs in others. We have talked with many people in this time, both fellow sufferers and health professionals, and came to realise there is a need for the type of very personal and caring service we provide.

Other members of our family are professionally involved with QLD healthcare; a daughter-in-law who manages two Queensland hospitals, and a son - formerly State Manager of a medical equipment and scientific equipment supplier - who is now involved with commercialisation activities for a leading Australian preclinical drug development organisation.
